One Phone Number per Resume - please
How many phone numbers do you have on your resume - two, three, more? Why, are you desperate? Are you trying to MAKE SURE you will not miss a call. Do you want to MAKE SURE someone can reach you?
Let's say you have three. Here I am, the hiring decision-maker, needing to reach you. I call the first number and leave a message ... then the second, then the third. Oops, I had to leave a message on all three. Hmm. Okay, I will send an email just in case.
So, you finally get back and have to answer three voicemail messages plus an email. Hmm. Should you call first ... or send an email? Should you do both, just in case? Now the problem is compounded.
Keep it simple and professional - give the decision-maker ONE phone number, preferrably your cell. Don't make them guess. And don't tell them it's your cell phone - just say "telephone" on your resume. They don't need to know and they don't care. They just want to get through or leave a message. Their time is valuable too.
Now, someone calls and you don't know who it is (from caller ID). Don't answer it between 8 AM and 6 PM. After all, you're a busy executive - your time is valuable - even if you're unemployed. Don't give them the impression that you're sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring. Or, if you do answer, tell the caller that you're busier than a three-legged cat in a sandbox and must call them back - and set a time. Now you can do a little research before you get blind-sided with questions.
